DELIBERATIONS AT THE CONGRESS.
TRADE WITH CANADA
(Received June 19, 10.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 10. Tho Chambers of Commerce Coti•gress adopted a resolution asking the federal Government to take immediate steps1 to re-establish a direct I steamship service between Vancouver sind Australia. The mover urged the need in order ■to secure the growing trade with Canada. It was a business proposition which would soon repay itself. Mr J. Paxton said thataftcr spending money up to the paying point of the service Australia, quietly sat down and allowed New Zealand to develop it and get the benefit or" Australia's expenditure. It was a grave reflection on tkjo Commonwealth Administration tlia-t such a thing should be allowed. New Zealand had gone- in ■for a contract for a limited term, but the Government was behind it, and when the time came it was welljiinown that it would be renewed.
