SYDNEY, June 18. 'The Chambers of Commerce Con'ierence resolved to ask the Commonwealth Government to open negotiations with, the British, Canadian, and New Zealand Governments with a- view jointly to acquire control of the cable across the Atlantic from Canada to the United Kingdom, and a- reduction ..of the present excessive'orates"for commercial cables. Senator Keating stated that Australia was insisting on such a cable, ' New Zealand was willing to co-operate, and that there was nothing definite received from Canada, while the attitude of the Imperial Government appeared contradictory.
