WANGANUI, June 19. The deadlock] in connection with the Putiki still continues. . Last ■evening the seamen promised to sign articles, but when approached this morning only two signed, six refusing on the ground that Wellington was not the port of signing off as provided by the articles.

It is understood that the -agents have sent to Wellington for men to replace those refusing to sign.

A function of a pleasing nature took place at the offices of Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., one day last week, the occasion being the departure of Mr Shirley W. Parker, who has resigned from the staff. In presenting to. .Mr Parker, *n behalf of the staff, a handsome travelling , bagi Mr B. S. iClouston., the manager, spoke in complimentary terms of the good feeling that had always existed between the recipient and his. fellow employee?-,, and expressed the regret of his firm and the staff at the loss of so able an officer and so estimable a co-worker.
