A Wellington Press Association telegram says, that James Grenfell, charged, with assaulting Alexander McLean by stabbing him on>the nose with a knife during a street row, was committed for trial to-day. James Henry Sergeant, a young man with a long career of crime, especially jewellery thefts, was sentenced to three months on ia charge! of theft. Other charges are pending against him.

A New Plymouth Press message says that it is proposed to hold a reunion at a convenient centre of the suirviving members of the Forty-third Regiment, on the 50th anniversary of their landing in New Zealand, on December 11th. Mr G. A. Adlamb, of Oakura, invites survivors to communicate with him.

At three o'clock to-day about 400 ratepayers had voted on the watersupply and drainage scheme. This number hardly realised the general expectation, but it was anticipated that the poll would be well attended later in the afternoon.

Tho death took place in Gi'cytown list Thursday of Mrs Loasby, wife of Mr D. P. Loasby, Mayor of Greytown, at the age of 57 years. The late Mrs Loasby was a daughter of Mrs Douglass, and was born in the Nelson district.
