(Notes by "Spectator.") An important point cropped up in the Opawa-Central senior and OpawaMoutere junior matches on Saturday. In the first case players of the Opawa team allege that one of their number on at least one occasion grounded the ball on the scoring-line, but the try was disallowed. In the 3umor match a similar case occurred, and the .referee .awarded a try. The following note to a rule regarding m-goai Should enlighten some players and referees: "A ball placed on the goalline by an attacking player is a try, and by a defending player a, touchdown." It is obvious, therefore, which referee was correct in his decision. The future success of clubs depends on their junior players. As the Central iunioi-s were disengaged' on Saturday the Central Club might have found it advantageous to 'make a slight infusion of younger bipod. As the team shaped, however, it was evident that it is getting into form,, and it will doubtless play a more prominent part in ensuing senior , matches than hitherto. Sotheran played a fine game throughout, although, at times he could probably have passed with more advantage than kicking. Branton was in form behind the scrum, and outclassed his opponent. L. Ihmckley is not up to last year.'s form, while Pfankuch was always handy at fiveeighths. Jackson and Forbes were, as usual, outstanding forwards, and the former showed, that he has not by any means lost the art of place-kicking. The Opawa scrum was faulty in packing, and the ball was constantly blocked in the back rank. A change in this department might b© beneficial to the team. Hodsoh excelled himself in general forward work, while Hall, Penny, and Dew also displayed ability in keeping "on th>e! ball." In the backs Rees saved well on several occa<sions, and O'Bc-iqn, af^oran unpromising beginning, shaped fairly well at full-back. B.'Dunckiey .again gave.a good exhibition as "winger." The tackling by both sides was an improvement on some previous efforts. Forwards, however, must learn to add their-weight a.ndi assistance when loose scrums are formed, instead of hampering the backs as they often do.
