WARD TOWN HALL.

TO BE OPENED ON FRIDAY

EVENING.

The Town Hall and Library at Ward is now practically completed, and will be opened by Mr R. McCallum, M:P., on Friday evening next. The building consists of a main, hall 40ft. by 25ft., with stage 25ft. by 12ft. and two dressing rooms. The supper room is 30ft. by 10ft., and is provided with cupboards to hold the library books, of which there are 700 volumes. Messrsi Bythell.and C 0.., Blenheim, 'were the contractors for the building, at a cost slightly over £400, exclusive of heating and lighting, and 4 their work has been carried out in a most substantial manner. The funds in hand have been provided by proceeds from socials, yearly picnics,'.eta, assisted by debentures and a Coronation grant of £75 from the Government; and it is hoped to clear the hall from the small debt remaining by a further canvass of the district. The committee have been generously assisted by residents outside the settlement, and almost all the settlers have resisted in some way to provide a" meeting-place for the district. The control of the building is vested. in trustees elected by the subscribers, and the site for the hall was granted by the Lands Department. At the opening ceremony, in addition to Mr McCallum, the Mayor of Blenheim, the chairman of the Awatere County Council, and the president of the Settlers' Association have been asked to deliver addresses. A concert programme # has been arranged, at which leading talent from Blenheim and elsewhere have kindly consented to assist, and a social will follow, for which the music will be provided by the Flaxbourne orchestra. A committee of ladies have charge of the supper arrangements, and the settlers are looking forward to an enjoyable evening.
