IMPROVEMENT SCHEME

GRANT OF £1500 PROMISED

Last week Mr L. (Griffiths, chairman of the Wairam Harbor Board} interviewed the Hon. F. M. B. | Fisher, Minister for Marine,, in Wei- \ jington, and requested him to have ? placed on the Estimates a .grant of j £1500 for the purpose of assisting . the Board to put a retaining .wall in j the river opposite the pilot station j and open a new cut with a view to } getting a better and deeper ibar. The j Minister promised that tihe request : shouldi be acceded to. i The work proposed to foe done -at. the bar is estimated to cost ibetween : £3000 and £40.00, and the Harbor j Board intends- not only to do this : work but also to purchase a 'dredge j at a further cost of £3000 or £4000, ; for the purpose of deepening the • river. The available foonds in hand . amount to some £3000, which, with.; the Government grant, will make ; £4500.
