WATER AND SEWERAGE

(Published by Arrangement.)

To the Ratepayers.—Much misrepresentation of the position is being circulated by the opponents to the scheme, and the following facts may do something to put ratepayers right on 6ome points: —- Cost of Scheme.—Before one penny piece is expended on the work tendei-a will be called for the completion or s the whole scheme, and unless! it can be carried out in its entirety for the money already granted it will not be commenced. Every 'Councillor w pledged on this point. There will ba no question of later on wanting more money. We shall know before it starts exactly what it is going to cost. The average depth of the mains ta the borough will be five feet, in many oases less, and the greatest depth will be 10ft. 6in., and this for only the main sewer in the centre of the towai. The Council will pay the whole cost in necessary cases of connecting properties with the mains, and this cost is to be repaid by the ' owner in annual payments extending over a period of 20 years. The capital value of the borough is £800,000, so that a loan of £05,000 is a very small percentage of this value. Attend to-night's meeting and hear the truth of the position.
