DOUBLE RAILWAY ACCIDENT. BRISBANE, Jan. 31. A double railway accident occurred near Murphy's Creek. A cattle train was derailed and the line w_as blocked for ten chains. While the breakdown gang was clearing ,the wreckage a train of empty cars ran into the debris. Five workmen,- named W. Freese, James Little, P. J. McCarthy, Charles McGregor, and Walter Claydon, were killed, and five injured, two seriously.

HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS.

SYDNEY, Jan. 30. A heavy thunderstorm and hurricane is reported from Glen Innes. The rainfall will benefit the crops. A dust thunderstorm occurred at Armidale. The telephone wires were fused at one residence, and the inmates received a shock. Other districts report severe thunder and lightning, following on the heat wave.

A CYCLONIC STORM

BRISBANE, Jan. 30. A cyclone is raging at Cairns, with terrific wind and rain and mountainous seas on the coast. The shipping is shelter ing. Slight damage has been done to houses. At Port Douglas the young cano crops were .affected.
