Lady Criterion's dam was also a winner. WILD CRY ia a beautiful dappled brown horse, 6 years, perfectly gaited trotter, standing 17 hands and proportionately conformed. He ia capable of a very high turn of speed, but owing to an accident he has never had a preparation. He, however, has raced in the rough, and has acquitted himself well, running "first, second, and third in three starts at Petone; also first at Reef ton, beating a field of 19 starters, and at Hokitika beating a very large field, of 22 starters. Florrie has proved herself one of the greatest show mares ever exhibited in Marlborough. By Clanranald (1), dam Catherine Wheel (2), by Maxim—Miss Kate (imp.) GAY SPARK is a dark brown horse, black points, standing about 16.2 in height, showing great power and quality. Clanranald, his sire, was one of the most successful sires in New Zealand,, whose stock for the past twelve years have won about £60,000 in stakes. The following are some of his best known progeny:—Glenculloch, Glenogle, Glenowlet, Fleetfoot, Flitaway, Flying Spark, Terrapin, Cannie Chiel, Windwhistle, Clanchattan, Sharpshooter, Signalman, Kirrimuir, Madam Madcap, Masterpiece, Broadsword (winner of the Newmarket). Gay Spark is full brother to Flying Spark, who won the Ascot £1000 and many other important races in Australia and New Zealand. Gay Spark's half-brother Treadmill, who is third on the list of winning sires for the past season, is the sire of Autumnus and Counterfeit. The latter takes first place on the list of winning horses with £3547 10s against her name, while Autumnus takes second place with £3070.
