WASHINGTON, Aug. 15. Protracted conferences between theHouse of Representatives and the-' Senate on the Panama Canal Bill re-, suited in the following agreement: Free passage for all American ships engaged in coastwise trade.
No tariff on foreign shipbuilding materials for. use in the United States. •
Trust-owned ships prohibited from using the Canal.
Railways prohibited from owning or competing with waterway lines operating through the Canal or elsewhere. American registry for American-own-ed, foreign-built ships engaged exclusively in foreign trade. _The conference dropped the Senate's alternative giving free passage to American ships engaged in foreign trade. The conference considered this provision a direct violation of the treaty with Britain.
# Political circles consider that Britam may object to the proposed prohibition of railroad-owned ships using the Canal in consequence of its effect ">• on Canada's traffic. ■ , : .;.'.-'
r 9n. the other hand, a general belief prevails , that no further protest will fee made in Britain's behalf in consequence of 'the abandonment of the discrimination against British ships
