GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKETS

(Christchurch Press, Saturday.) The wheat market keeps firm and ! steady, but there appears to be little ■or no business doing. The local i millers are only buying odd lines to i keep up. their stocks, and. the same I may be said of those in the North I Island. Apparently there will be no I shortage before next harvest, as it is reported that there is a considerable quantity still in the hands^ of growers who are holding in the hope that the market will improve before the next crop is available. What tew sales take piaee are on a basis of 3s 6d to 3s 7d, at country stations. No I sale has been reported of late at over 3s 7d. There is a larger quantity of oat- ! sheaf chaff on offer, but prices keep fairly firm, 92s 6d to 955, at country stations, still being the ruling quotations.
