GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKETS.

(Christchureh. Press, Saturday.) Practically no-change ,has taken place in tke condition of the wheat market since oUr lasi report dn Wednfcsday last. Busm«as is exceedingly c^uiet, and there has been no-quotable dhange in prices for this cereal; , Tjhe same remarks fpply to oats, which, remain firm at late rates.

The best price quoted for Up-to-Dates yesterday was 40s per ton, at country stations;1 Derwents are quoted at 455, and Up-tb-Dafc& seed at 40s, to 50&,!a slight drop since the beginnirg of the week.

Butter has weakened a penny per lb on all gradesj^^ ,except dairy,, which is quoted at Jd lower. Cheese, on the other hand, has advanced sharply, and factory grade commands 6£d, dairy being £d less. Merchants state thai^ business in' grass seed of all descriptions has been exceptionally brisk during August, and tho slight falling off during the present month..may be accounted for by the fact that farmers have probably done most of their sowing for the season. • ; The undermentioned are the prices paid to farmers, at country stations, free of commission, except where otherwise stated:— Wheat—Nominal. Oats—Nominal. Algerian seed lines 2s 9d to- 2s 10d, feed 2s 7d to 2s B.dj. Gartons 2s Sd to 2s 9d, at country .stations. ; : Barley—Nominal. v Ryegrass—ltalian 3g 3d to 3s 6d, Perennial 3s 3d to 3s 6d, at country stations 1. '

Cocksfoot—6d to 7d, ,on Peninsula. Be»aas-r-3s 3d, at country stations. Peas;— Partridge 3s 6d to 3s Sd, Blue Imperials 6s Gd to 7s. White Ivories 5s to 5s 3d, at country stations.

Flour—£9 per ton. Bran—£4 15s, local £4 10s, f.0.b., per ton.

Pollard—£s 10s per ton. Oatmeal—2s's at £14, 7's £16 per ton.

Potatoes—Up-to-Dates 35s to 40s; Up-to-Bates, seed, 40s to 50s, at country stations.

Oatsheaf Chaff—Nominal; 80s, at country stations. Onions—-Nominal.
