FLOURISHING FINANCES

At the annual meeting of the New South Wales Rugby League the report showed the finances to be flourishing. The takings at all matches for the year were £13,512. over £6000 above the previous year. The profits were £1441.

At the Rugby League meeting a speaker strongly urged them to keep the gambling spirit out. They were not afraid of professionalism or of the paying of princely .salaries, but they were afraid of the bookmakers creeping in. There was no need for gambling in the sport, which stood on its own merits.
