ANTONIA DOLORES.

A Sydney paper says:—"The season of Mdlle. Dolores, which closed last Saturday night, was a remarkable one in several respects. The charming vocalist is highly pleased at the good attendances at each of the six recitals and1 appreciates the enthusiasm with which her Sydney friends, as she is gracious enough to call us, received e&ch of her items. At each concert this remarkable vocalist rendered l£ items, including two heavy oPer **lei or oratorio, arias. To these she added the inevitable encore to each song group, and in this way rendered nve, and when double was demanded, six extra humters. Bard work does not hurt her: at the end cf the evening her voice was as fresh as at the opening which demonstrates in a nutshell the- value o* true bel canto training. It is safe to say that no vocalist trained other than in the bel canto school, and highly trained at <liat, could possibly sing aria after ana to the number of 17 or 18 without showing vocal fatigue. Mdlle. Dolores nas rendered entire programmes aided only by the accompanist; occasionally she includes a solo pianist or vocalist at- her recitals. In the matter of versatility she is also unique. She gives a star rendition of opera repertoire, and" in the next breath she is inimitable in a piquant love ditty, or a. tear-compelling lament, whilst.as an extra she will convulse the audience with a laughing song, or gladden -.heir hearts with, a joyous serenade. At these six recitals she drew on rare songs1 by choice old masters. She sang songs by Linley, Glu-ck, ■ Martin, Buonocini. J. .Hook, Franek, Reimann, Pureell, Ramean and Paradies. Then ws had arias from the great ones amongst, the 'old masters. J. S. Bach, Hayden, Mozart, Schumann, Schu-; bert, and Handel made their stately bows each night, and the moderns Were hot neglected, for had we not Debussy, Brahms, Kjerulf, McDowell/ Bennett, Chadwick, Lehmann, lUumenthal, Goring Thomas, Tito Mattel and a host of othens." A big house is assured1 for Thursday, next. j
