HAVELOCK TOWN BOARD.

Our Havelock correspondent writes as follows:— - At the' monthly meeting of the. Havelock Town Board on Wednesday last all the members were .present. The matter of the careless way in which waggoners, making Havelock a resting-place, -allow their horses to impede traffic was brought up, and it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Reader, that the police be asked to caution offenders in this respect.

The question of" letting stock on to the recreation ground for payment, as was recently done in the case of a mob of sheep, was discussed, and it was decided that the secretary, be authorised to let for a like purpose as opportunity offered. The secretary informed the Board that the sum of £150" at credit of waterworks account^had been lodged as a fixed deposit for two years with the Bank of New Zealand. It was resolved that the secretary's action be approved.. .

The question of a petition regarding the suspension of the Counties Act

was gone into, and the secretary was instructed, on the motion or Mi Reader, seconded by Mr Buckman, to telegraph to Mr Griffiths asking if the petition ih favor ojE the'suspension of the Act was in circulation, and that on receipt of his reply the Board authorise the Chairman to take the necessary action. Re the Wairau Bridge Commission: It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Reader that, if necessary, the Chairman call a ■ special meeting of the Board for the Wednesday immediately preceding the date on which the Commission is to sit. Mrs Muloney wrote regarding the condition of a culvert on , the road near her property, and it- was decided that the complaint be looked into and any' necessary work attended to after the report of the' inspector had been obtained. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Reader, that the Secretary write to Mr Sharp urging upon him the urgent-necessity -of getting the Mud!flat road work inland,-and that tenders be invited- 'for tfi'e work' by advertisement in TriE Express and., the Pelorus Guardian.

A letter was. , received from the secretary of the Sports Committee asking that some improvement he made in the recreation ground prior to the date of the Easter sports. Mr Buckman explained that only a small outlay would be required, and on the motion of Mr Taylor, it was decided that the.request be acceeded to. It was resolved that, as the days were shortening the hour of meeting in future be 7.30 p.m. Accounts totalling, £71 15s lOd were passed for payment, and. the Board rose.
