NOT POSSIBLE IN 'AUSTRALIA
(Received' March 7, '-9-501 a.m.) ■;■■■■ SYDNEY,/March 7. - Mr Trefle, Honorary Minister, does not~believe that the "Meat Trust will Ibe able to obtain the footing in Australia that it has done"in America, b> oauso the Government were hos+il©. and' the Trust would never'be able to dbtaki 'preferential treatment in +be .carriage .or goods on the railways ■against-the'isolated settler. . .Even if the Trust became established it would "be . a simple matter for the Government to step in and handle the produce from the co-operative works. The Trust would have a hopeless struggle against the combined power of the people.and the Government. He uul not thinlr that, with a Federal Labor Government in power and the State Parliaments, rapidly getting into the hands of the Labor Party, Australia would .be regarded as a suitable plice for /the Trust's operations. Nevertheless, it behoved everybody to bactc up the efforts being made to prevent the Trust playing ducks, and drakes 'wrfih thp producer's interesSfcs.
