Mr Elder, of the firm of John xCooke and Company, states that owing to the strong expressions of public opinion the debenture scheme of the Meat Trust has been withdrawn. ■Yet he does not expect a complete retreat. The men to whom the de'benturps were offered are faced with 'the alternative of buying shares or .meeting the competition ' from the ■new works.
