The Bank of England return for the week ended Wednesday, March 30, is as follows:—Gold coin £32,----286,000; reserve £23,299,000; proportion of reserve to liabilities 4.4.81; notes in circulation £28,740,000; public deposits £8,880,000; other deposits £43,110,000; Government securities £13,740,000; other securities £33,012 J 000. Three months bills 3 11-16 d; short loans 3|; bank rate 4s. New South Wales 4 per cents. £107, 3f per cents. £98 10s, 3 per cents. £87 10s; Victorian 4 per cents. £103 10s, 3£ per cents. £98 10s, 3 per cents. £86 10s; the rest are unchanged. I The wheat markets are firm. Buyers are more disposed to operate, but unwilling to pay higher prices. Cargoes are steady. Sales are reported at 38s 9d to 39s 4|d; steamer parcel afloat 36s 4£d. . There is little inquiry for on spot at about 425. Chicago May 114£ cents. Flour is quiet and unchanged. Australian patent April-May is held for 29s 6d, landed at Glasgow. Oats are dull. La Plata MarchApril 14s l£d. The butter trade is steady. Danish is unchanged. Choicest Australian 118s to 120s, occasionally 1225, and a few 1245, the cold Aveather retarding European supplies. The market closes firmer owing to the loss of the Pericles's cargo.
There is a fair trade in New Zealand cheese at 61s to 625, and occasionally 635. Copper, spot £57 15s per ton, three months £58 17s 6d, electrolytic £61 10s; tin, spot £150 10s, three months £154 10s; lead £12 18s 9d; pig-iron 51s 7d.
Sugar: German 13s Bd,.first marks 16s 9d.
Bradford tops are cheerful and unchanged.
