BARLEY YET AGAIN.
TO THE EDITOR
Sir, —Mr Wiffen has given you his final Avoid, but we are sure he will not mind our reply just to emphasise one or two points. Ist. We do know something of the Nelson transaction, and although we >are pleased it has been ho mutually satisfactory to Mr Wift'eu and his clients, we are aware that the price paid was not 4s 6d, .although it will be observed Mr Wiffen's contention all through was ''he knew it would be more." 2nd. He definitely denies having offered an Auckland brewer 1910 prime barley at 4s 6d. We are in a position to state that this is not correct, as at least one Auckland brewer was offered a prime 1910 line by him at this price. If Mr Wiffen likes we will name the sample and the brewer, and we are only waiting a reply from our friends, which we will publish, to prove our statement. 3rd. The crux of the whole thing is, as Mr Wiffen says, "What is barley worth to-day?" In his opinion it will go higher. We shall see. We shall also see how much Mr Wiffen will buy at the famous prices he "thinks lib will go tat" 4th. We are glad we can agree with Mr Wiffen that thanks are due to you for publishing the correspondence, but we cannot agree that Mr .Wiffen has been entitled to any credit for the very wild statements which he has not been able to substantiate.
_„ , , CORRY AND CO. [The barley market is now closed, as far as tins correspondence is concerned.—Ed.J
