Mr Hoskins, proprietor of the ] Lithgow ironworks, was fined thirty guineas for breach of the Industrial Disputes Act in discharging several employees for refusing to work on Saturday. The defendant admitted the breach, but claimed that it arose through a misunderstanding, and was afterwards rectified.

AN INTERESTING DOCUMENT. SYDNEY, Mar. 10. The Lands Department has unearthed a map giving a plan of Port Jackson in 1792. It bears a note in the handwriting of Governor Phillips, which sets forth that all lands and buildings within the boundary of Sydney shall remain the property of the Crown. At the annual meeting of the Mutual Life and Citizens' Company, the chairman stated that the business for the year 1909 was again a record, exceeding by £131,166 the amount of new assurances completed in 1908. The new policies numbered 11,282, assuring £2,009,4.60, on which the new annual premium income amounts to £70,425. THE MORESBY MISHAP. BRISBANE, March 10. The - Marine Board's inquiry into the stranding of the steamer Moresby resulted in the captain's being severely censured. The Board considered that the captain acted wrongly in entering the passage where the vessel stranded before daylight, and also in sending the passengers away in the boats. "WANTED" FOR CONSPIRACY. SYDNEY, March 10. Huxley, one of the defendants in the Ronald-Harper conspiracy case, lias been arrested in Sydney. AUSTRALIA'S POPULATION. SYDNEY, March 11.
