BULLER v. NELSON.
VISITORS WIN BY 11 TO NIL.
BULLER'S STRONG VANGUARD
BACKS VERY SOUND.
[Special to Express.]
NELSON, Sept. 16. A special return representative match* Bulle^v. Nelson was played fciero yesterday and resultedin ..a win for the former by eleven poirrte^ to nil. The' weather was- 'fine, witfc a moderate southerly breeze blowing, and there was a fair attendance of spectators. The visitors showed splendid form, and were excellent in all departments of tne game. The forwards are a fine heavy lot, and played with' great dash. The hookers were successful in getting the ball from the scrum, and the backs threw the ball about in great style, running straight, backing up well ; and handling it cleverly. The kicking was good and the tackling was safe.; The Nelson players were decidedly off-colour, and the pack which averaged about a stone less per man than the visitors, failed to hold their own, consequently the : backs had little opportunity of indulging in passing, and what little they did do was invariably spoiled by faulty handling. Buller, in the first spell scored eight points^ Colvin and Woods securing tries, the latter's being converted by Kerr. In the second spell Buller registered its third try, which was got by F. Hansby, the kick at goal failing
The visitors narrowly escaped scoring on several occasions, and Nelson were dangerous . quite a number of times, but Buller's defence was sound, and they had several unsuccessful shots at goal from free-kicks. For the winners, Colvln, Scott, Hansby (2), and Hans were the best of the backs. The forwards'sill played well, particularly Corbett, Dennehy^ Neill and Callaghan.
The team were cordially welcomed in the forenoon, and after/the match by the Rugby Union. The visitors left for Blenheim this morning.
