FLAXBOURNE.

[from our correspondent. 1 Monday

A splendid autumn lias been experienced here; in fact, the weather has been more like spring than autumn. With the exception of a few frosts last week there has been nothing to check growth, and winter feed will be plentiful. A good deal of sowing has been done, and there will probably be about the same acreage in crop as last year, but more wheat than has previously been the case is being put in. There is still a good quantity of oats in stack, as the present prices do not allow of chaff being carted to Seddon at a profit. Settlers are' looking forward to the Ministerial promise of the line being finished in time for next harvest being carried out, as fair progress is now being made, gangs being at work as far down as Ward.

The usual meeting of the Settlers' Association was held on June 7th, and it was resolved to again approach the Government with a request for a rebate of rent in the case of settlers whose crops were ruined by caterpillars. It was also resolved to ask the District Road Engineer to form the street connecting Tachall's Road with Ward Street. Monthly socials throughout the winter were arranged for, the first to be on July 2nd, and a special meeting was arranged for July sth, when a debate is to be held. The subject to be discussed is "Leasehold Avith option of purchase v. Leasehold."
