BOOKMAKERS' LICENSES.
AN OFFENDED CLUB. [press association.] PALMERSTON N. 3 May 18. On being interviewed, the omcials of the Manawatu Racing Club take strong exception to Dr. Findlay's published remarks regarding the issue of bookmakers' licenses, as far as the Manawatu Club is concerned. A, Standard representative was iniormed that all applications for licenses were approved by a special committee of the club, subject to the final approval of the police and the club's private detective. No bookmaker not approved is allowed on the course. Regarding the financial stability of bookmakers, an official of the club points out that it is impossible to ascertain this, since bookmakers have not succeeded in forming a Tattersail's Club, which would be responsible for defaulting members.
