HASTINGS, May-18. The Hon. 11. McKenzie received a 'deputation to-day comprising the Borough Council, Chamber, of Commerce and Farmers' Union, urging that attention bo, given to various matters of importance in the district. In the course of his reply the Minister stated that Government had not intended to build elaborate stations and" post offices while people in the back blocks had slush and mud to wade -through and had no railway conveniences at all. He approved the policy of closer settlement in Hawke's Bay, but the price oTland had to be .considered. The Minister leaves for Woodville this afternoon.
