DEFENCE CONFERENCE.
NEW ZEALAND'S REPRESENTA-
TIVE
SIR JOSEPH WARD WILL
PROBABLY GO
[press association.] GREYMOUTH, May .17. Interviewed by a representative of the Grey Star, the Hon. Mr Millar stated in reference to the representation of New Zealand at the Imperial Defence Conference that it seemed as if Sir Joseph Ward must go ? as the borne authorities were so anxious that he should be present; indeed they had gone the length of offering to postpone the Conference till a date to suit him, so anxious were they to have him present at the deliberations. Presuming, therefore, that the session opened in the last week in June and Sir Joseph decided to attend the Conference, it would be necessary for him to leave not later than the 15th June, and he would not be able, as he would be but for this important event taking place, to take his place at the opening of the new Parliament. The matter, however, would be decided very shortly, ■ and , arrangements made for "his departure would be published authoritatively. ,
