POLLARD'S JUVENILE OPERA COMPANY.
Lovers of tuneful nlusic, bright dressing, charming ballets, character-,, istic scenery and weird mechanical and lighting effects will have their "appetites satisfied to-night, when •Mr Pollard will stage for the first-time here by the present company the most melodious of all comic operas, Planquette's masterpiece, "Kip Van Winkle." It would be ari insult to our readers to mention the plot of this popular work. It is iamiliar- to everyone, and has always been popular with playgoers, whether seen '.in dramatic or operatic form. Thecharacter of ''Rip" is like "Hamlet"; it is the "ultima thule" of all young actors. The scope for character acting is so great, from the light-hearted village ne'er do well of the first act to the decrepit old man of the last, who wakes up after his twenty years'-jsleep, is a marvellous contract, and gives a, clever artist great opportunities of showing his capabilities. Mr Charles Albert, the clever comedian of the company, has evidently made a close study of the character, as every critic who has seen his performance unanimously declares it as being the finest bit of character acting seen for many years. Master Bert Nicholson, theDoy comedian, who will be remembered for his excellent performances in "Bluebell", and "Bong Bong," is said to have the part of his career theirascible innkeeper, "Nick Vedder.'" The cast is an exceptionally, long one, and calls for the full strength of the company. It will' serve tolintroduce several new faces arid old favorites w v ho when last seen here were only in the chorus.
