STATEMENT BY SIR JOSEPH WARD.
NO MORE RIFLES TO LEAVE THE
CHRISTCHURCHj May 15
Referring to recent cable messages dealing with the smuggling of , old rifles, among * hem some old rifles from New Zealand, ■'.■a the hill tribes of India, Sir Josenn Ward states that so far as he is ay- 'f the reference must be to some old rifles that were.returned to England some years ago. from the Dominion. . It was understood at the time that they .went to a manufacturing firm in England, and that the English authorities were duly advised of this. It was further understood that the rifles were not to go out of England. Sir Joseph has given definite instructions that1 no''■■/rifles' that go out of use in New Zealand' are to be sold 'for exportation to, England or any other ©ountry. .
