A STRIKE THREATENED
[press association.] GREYMOUTH, May 14. Three men wore dismissed last week at the State mine extension works, no reason being given. The union thereupon passed a resolution demanding the reinstatement of the men pending an inquiry, threatening to give notice if tha ■ request were not granted. Several interviews took place withjout effect, and the men have notified the authorities that they will cease work in 21 days. The secretary of the union says that no fault is found with the men's work, but the engineer complains of the way they spend their money.
