SUPREME COURT.

[press association.]

CHRISTCHURCH. May 13. In the Supreme Court to-day, William Hutchinson and Ernest Handcock were jointly charged with the theft of £65 in money from the person of Henry John Lawrence. Hutchinson was found not guilty, and Handcock guilty. His Honor, said that it was an impudent theft. Handcock was evidently a criminal. He would not this time be treated as an habitual, but a further appearance would be so treated. He sentenced him to three years' imprisonment. A charge of theft of £20 of the money stolen from Lawrence by Handcock was laid against Thomas Henry Calvert, who was found guilty and sentenced to 12 months. This man also had a bad record.
