FARM COLONY FOR WOMEN.
MR BURNS REFUSES TO SANC-
TION ONE
CHARWOMEN AND GARDENING
[press association.l / (Received.March 3, 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 3
' In the House of Commons yesterday, Labour Members sharply attacked Mr Burns's administration of the Unemployment Act, alleging that it Avas ungenerous. Mr Pickersgill did not think that the women workers of London were fairly dealt with compared with the men. ,
Mr Burn? justified his action in not sanctioning the establishment of a farm colony for women. It was useless to transfer charwomen. It would cost £200 apiece to teach them mar-ket-gardening. He had made grants and sanctioned loans wherever he was satisfied that such were necessary.
