THE PROCESSION THROUGH THE STREETS.

SANCTIONED BY THE HOME

OFFICE.

(Received Sept. 10, 11.40 p.m.)

LONDON, Sept. 10.

King Edward, through Colonel Sir! Arthur Davidson, his equerry, liaa acknowledged the Protestant petition, which begged the King to follow the example of his mother, whose Royal proclamation of the 15th June, 1852,. forbade the holding of Roman Catholic ceremonial processions in the streets, thereby preventing a precedent for beginning religious strife.

The Daily Telegraph states that the Home Office has informed the Protestant deputation that Mr Gladstone and the commissioner of police canctioned the procession.

The Standard appeals to Mr Gladstone politely to intimate that the procession must be abandoned ; a hint to the promoters would be sufficient.
