The Kaiser, the .Kings of Saxony, and Wurtemburg, and many German] Princea journeyed to Vienna to congratulate the Emperor Franz Josef on the celebration of his diamond jubilee. In responding to the Kaiser's tribute to him as a noble ruler, a true ally and a. mighty guardian of peace. Emperor Josef said that he regardea Austria-Hungary's strength, like Germany's, as based on the monarchical principle, and the true unchanging love of the people. " This day fortifies me in the joyous expectation of an alliance pursuing none but pacific ends, effectually assisted by similar efforts of other Powers, fully to accomplish its object unto the remotest future." The event was marked by popular rejoicings and choral and other festivities.

King Emanuel and other Sovereigns and heads of States sent special messages to Emperor Franz Josef. [The Emperor Franz Josef, who was born m 1830, succeeded to the Throne of Austria on December 2, 1848, and was crowned King of Hungary on, June 8, 1867.]
