ORIENTAL IMMIGRATION.
"OVER-RIPE FOR SETTLEMENT:" ' [press association.] (Received April 18, 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, April 17. Mr R. C. Munro-Ferguson and other prominent Liberals urge the Government to convene an Imperial Conference to discuss the problem of v Oriental immigration. Lord Ampthill, who was Governor of Madras from 1899 to 1906, contends that the question is over-ripe for settlement. He argues that economic necessity, and not racial prejudices, is at the root of the difficulty.
