A FATAL RUNAWAY.

WHANGAREI, March 2. An old settler named. James Witliam Reed, accompanied by his wife, Elizabeth, was driving in a buggy from his home at Parahaki at attend morning service in Whangarei yesterday when the horse took fright and, •dashed down the Paranui, hill, which: "is very steep. The result w.as that the vehicle capsized and' was smashed -to atoms. Mrs Reed was so- badly injured that she died three, hours afterwards. Mr Reed is seriously shaken, but is reported to be doing well.
