The 12 days' boom in bottles, pays the Otago Daily Times, has been a busy time with Messrs Thomson and Co. During that brief period they handled some 6000 dozen bottles, 'for the whole of which they paid 2s 6d per"'dozen, or a total of £750. There were numerous interesting; features of the "boom.' 1 When the heaviest 'con-' signments had about ceased to come in the factory was invaded by an army of small boys with bags and .handcarts. On -.one day in the progress of payment for small lots Messrs Thomson and Co. exhausted the Bank of Australasia's supply of pennies. The firm was besieged with offers by telegram and letter daily, and received consignments from practically over the whole of the South Island, including the West Coast. Five men were engaged daily in counting, and testing bottles alone. Messrs Thomson and Co. now have in stock, roughly speaking, 25,000 dozen bottles, .and these are stacked crate upon crate and bay upon bay in their yards and sheds. The supply in hand should last the firm for the next two or three* years.
