(Our Own Correspondent.) Monday. The men's championship of the Picton Golf Club was decided at the Mount Pleasant links on Saturday. The match was played between Messrs Vickers and Madsen, and resulted in a win for Mr Vickers- by 3 up and 1 to play.

The finals for the A and B class competitions in the Picton Rowing Club were rowed off on Saturday evening, and the finals in both races were close and interesting. In A class, A. Perano and jj. Linsen beat D. Godfrey and Mathieson, thus securing the trophies presented by Mr Chambers. The B class winners proved to be F. Burns and F. Madsen, who won by two lengths from C. Smith and H. Parfitt, and take the medals presented by Mr H. Western.

The school children from Spring Creek and Marshlands arrived here by train on Saturday morning, and spent an enjoyable tinie down the Sounds on the s.s. Waitohi.

Messrs W. Perano and L. Freeth have been successful in securing section 5, Block 15, in the Norswood survey district, Dannevirke. The sections were allotted by ballot, and there were 1500 applicants for the 21 blocks of land offered. Messrs Perano and Freeth should consider themselves lucky in securing their section under such keen competition.

Mi' J. H- Southwick, pharmaceutical chemist, has disposed of his business here to Dr J. D. Tripe, of Wanganui. Picton Avas unfortunate to-day in the _ matter of holiday weather, rain setting in this morning, and continuing with short breaks all day. The numerous holiday-iriakers from Blenheim had to make the best of any available shelter, and many of them returned home by a special train put on at 2.30.

The Borough School picnic was held at The Grove, and in spite of the wet, the Elsie took about 200 children and adults there. Mr John Duncan generously placed his grounds at the disposal of the picnickers, who spent a fairly enjoyable time, the ground being well sheltered and dry. The Picton Bowling Green was opened this afternoon, and a number of Blenheim bowlers journeyed down by train, in anticipation of a pleasant game with their Picton friends. But rain up.set their plans, and the Blenheim visitors had unwillingly to return by the- afternoon train. A good number of the local bowlers and some

lady friends assembled in the pavillion at 2.80, and after the President (Mill. C. Seymour) had made a short opening speech, Mrs Seymour threw the first jack, and the green was decieared open. Afternoon tea wiis provided by the ladies, and though play was out of the question, a pleasant hour was spent by the members, discussing plans for the seasoji. The Club has already gained a number of new members, and although the opening day was disappointing, one and all are looking forward to a successful season, and some interesting contests for the "Buckles" and "Feathers."
