RUNS OVER A COW

ONLY SLIGHT DAMAGE

[PKEBS ASSOCIATION.;] GORE, Nov. 9. The northern express was derailed to-day on the Gore side of ~Waipahi, through running over a'icdw. The engine left the rails fifty yards. before one of the many bridges on this section, but was' brought to a standstill within three yards. Had it toppled over a steep embankment at the place of the accident the result would have been disastrous, as the train was crowded with holiday freight. At it was there was a little damage, consisting of a broken cowcatcher bar and a fractured plate.

With the help of the passengers, the engine was got on to the rails, and proceeded after a delay of tAventy - five minutes.
