FLAXBOURNE.

(Our Own Correspondent.) / Saturday. A very successful social in aid of school funds was Jield at Flaxbourne on October 25th"in 'the Ward schoolroom.,' Owing to a considerable amount of expense being incurred in fencing off shelter trees which had been planted at the school grounds, the Committee has had difficulty in making capitation allowance meet expenses. Residents, turned out in full force, and the Committee's funds benefited to the amount of £6. Dancing, interspersed with songs, was carried on until 2 a.m., and those present spent a very enjoyable evening. Supr per was provided by the ladies. Mrs J. Andrews kindly supplied excellent music, and extras were played by Mrs Scrint and Miss Vallance.

A very narrow escape from fire occurred at Flaxbourne on the 24th, The carpenter had finished building a woolshed for Mr J. McGregor on Thursday evening, and the building was left apparently safe, but on Friday morning it was found that "a fire had started in some • woolpacks. The fire had burnt t3ie floor for some distance round them, and then expired. Smoke had been noticed by neighbours, but no importance had been attached to- the fact. The damage done was luckily slight.
