THE WARRIMOO ACCIDENT.

THE CAPTAIN EXONERATED

[press association.]

DUNEDIN, Sept.-25. At the inquiry into the stranding of the Warrimoo, Captain Meßeth gave details of the accident. The -vessel, he said, touched at the stern on the sandbank, and was practically afloat elsewhere. He had little time to signal to the lighthouse, as a bank of clouds was coming up, and he was afraid of being shut in. He thought that .the bank was further out than when he was there last.

The .Court found that there was no negligence, and taking into consideration the urgency of the occasion the captain could not be blamed for taking more than ordinary risk. His certificate was returned, and no crder was made as to costs.
