CHALLENGE SHIELD.

SOUNDS D.R.C. v. MOUNTED RIFLES. This match was fired at the Waikawa range on Saturday, arid resulted in a victory for the Sounds team by 52 points. The best scores of the day were those of W. Neal and W. €oleman, both of the Sounds Club, who put on 66 and 65 respectively out of 70. Save that a fishtail wind was blowing and the light was somewhat changeable, the day was favourable for shooting. The winning team shot very consistently, as is shown by the fact that but 13 points separated the top and bottom men. Following are the scores:

BLENHEIM RIFLES v. TUA MARINA D.R.C. The two ex-Shield winners met on the new Chaytor Range at Marshlands. Although the wind was fairly strong from the north-west, the openness of the surrounding country made the range a comparatively easy one on which to gauge the windage. In the final stages of the match a dark sky and unsteady wind developed, making the shooting somewhat difficult. While no "possibles" were j scored, Rifleman Soper, for the Tua Marinas, and Lieut. o'Sullivan, for j the town corps, made " all-buts." The Blenheim Rifles, who proved the winners' in this match by seven points, had the best 'Hail" of all the;niany teams out on Saturday, the bottom man getting centres, and only eight points separating him from top place. This is probably the best thing of the kind yet recorded" in the teams matches. Captain Cresswell.
