Newcastle coal to 11s is likely to take place within a few weeks. The reason for the delay is that several collieries are averse to a rise at present, and desire to secure uniformity in price throughout the district. [About the beginning of the year all the mines in Newcastle (except one supplying a lower grade coal not mar-; ketable in New Zealand) put up thej price of coal Is per ton, after raising| it Is per ton some months before.; The rise, therefore, totalled 2s a ton; in .twelve months, and the change is. said to be -in sympathy 'witsfa the price: of coal all over the world.
