The Waikaihu Hockey Club held a ball in Mr R. Brownlee's barn last night. The affair was a great success. The barn was decorated with nikau palms and native shrubs, intermingled with hockey sticks tied with the club's colours, and a few flags lent brightness to the scene. The floor was in excellent order. The supper was everything that could be desired, every sort of delicacy being provided. The tables were decorated with red and white flowers (the club's colours), and red silk centres. Mr Dillon brought a party from Blenheim, and other visitors were present from Havelock, Canvastown, Okaramio. and Renwick. The music was supplied by Mr Rutland (piano), and extras *were played by Mrs Thorpe, Miss O'Sullivan, and Mr F. O'Sullivan (violin). Among those present were Mrs R. Brownlee (in black silk), Mrs O'Sullivan, Mrs Swafford, Miss McMillan, Mrs Simmons, Mrs Farriell, Mrs Thorpe,' Miss Macalister (Canvastown), Miss Stone (in pale bhie), Miss Jarvis, Miss Hughes, and Miss Thorpe (in white silk). Mr E. Scott made an efficient M.C. Messrs N. Jones, J. Jones, McMillan (3), Stratford, Kelling, Kenninprton (2), and Watson were amongst the male dancers. The affair was kept up till a late hour, and the hockey girls are to be congratulated on the success of their social.
