MEETING OF SHEARERS.

FORMATION OF A UNION

The following shearers attended the meeting held at the Maryborough Hotel on Saturday, for the purpose of formin ga union:—Messrs J. TWnsend (in the chair), F. Mills, W. Smith, J. Maddock, F. White, J. McLean, W. McLennan, M. Hogan, W. Gibson, D. Gillies, J. Halloran, M. Brosnahan, J. H. Peter, T. Jplliffe, D. McLennan, K. McLennan, O. Dalziel, J, Clarke, and H. Lovering. It was unanimously decided that an industrial union of workers'bo formed, to be called the Marlborough Shearers' Union.

The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr J. Townsend; Vice-Presidents Messrs W. Me Lennan and D. Gillies; Secretary, Mr C. "Gillett; Treasurer, Mr J. Barry; Committee, Messrs F. Mills, M. Bro&nahan, M. Hogan, J. Maddock, and J. McLean. .

A meeting of the executive was fixed for Saturday next. ■ •■■

Qn the motion of Mr F. White, seconded by Mr J. Maddock, it was resolved: "That the union price for shearing in Marlborough (both shears and machines) shall be one pound and rations per 100 for all flock sheep; ramsi and ram stags over six months old, double rates; stud sheep, three for two; double-fleeced sheep, three for two,'.all sheep to be dagged before being brought to the shed." On the .motion of Mr if.; Maddock, seconded by Mr J. MceLan, the Otago rules were adopted. Twenty-five members paid up in the room, and the meeting adjourned.
