OUR WHITE ELEPHANT.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —It was- predicted, that- when the Town' Hall was built, theatrical companies would be falling over one another in their rush to book dates for performances, and that Blenheim theatre-goers would have their fill of amusement. But what has been the actual case? The Besses o' th' Barn Band (thanks to Mr R. D. Martin); Marie Narelle; a few blackamoors and a picture-show or two—what el.se? Why doesn't the Town Hall Committee of the Borough Council do something towards making the building pay, and at the same time give the public a chance to see something good? ■ The theatre is an educative influence which is not fully appreciated, and why should the Blenheim^ people be denied that influence? I saw by a paper yesterday that the" Julius Knight Company was going to play in Dannevlrks --for one night only, it is true, but who wouldn't pay his two or three shillings for a chance to see Julius Knight? The visit of th© " Besses" demonstrated clearly enough that good shows pay in Blenheim•; then why doesn't the Council take some steps to give us a share of what is going? : FAMILY CIRCLE.
