:^_ THE CHIEF JUSTICE'S CHOICE. •{- [PEEBS ASSOCIATION.} June 7. The announcement is made to-day or the names of the King's Counsel who " have been appointed. AH the applicants' names were. forwarded to the Chief Justice, who recommended the following ten:—Messrs H. D. Bell, M. Chapman, 0. P. Skerrett and J. Or. Findlay :(Attorney-General), Wellington; Hon. J. A. Tole, 8.A., LLB., and 1? E. Baume LLB., Auckland; T. I. Joynt and T. W. Stringer, Christ-, church; J. H. Hosking and S. Solomon, B.A.> Dunedin. l"he Chief Justice, in a covering letter, says that if the honour is-to be apixreeiated, not more than ten should te appointed. Wellington is given four, and the other centres two each, because two Judges sit in Wellington arid the Appeal Court also sits there. In making the recommendations, seniority and continued service at the Bar were considered, and, other things feeing equal. University degrees were weighed'in favour of a candidate. The gentlemen recommended will receive their letters patent on taking the usual oath of the office. [The Hon7 J. A. Tole is at present Crown Prosecutor at Auckland, and v/as Minister for Justice in the Grey Cabinet; Mr Baume is M.H.R. for Auckland East; Mr H. D. Bell, Crown Prosecutor for Wellington, is a ran of the late Sir F. D. Bell, sometime Speaker of the House of Representatives ; Mr Stringer is Crown Prosecutor for Christchurch, and the other gentlemen are leading lawyers in their respective cities.]
