LEGISLATION AND LOANS.
VICTORIA AS A FIELD FOR. INVESTMENT.
[press association.] (Received June 8, 7.30 a.m.)
LONDON, June 7. * A number of financiers interested in Victoria gave a luncheon to Mr Bent to-day.
Mr Faithfull Begg, who presided, objected to the. tone of Mr W. M. Hughes's recent speeches. He said that they were calculated only to "produce a feeling of unrest.
Mr Bent assured the gathering that it was perfectly safe to invest money in Victoria. Most of the labour leaders had .substantial vested interests in the State. He was willing to pledjro himself that future legislation would in no "•ay interfere with legitimate investments. Victoria faithfully obsorvc-d her .obligations.
