Izard, MIH.IL; twisted one of his knees about a week ago, and has been- ordered to-take complete rest for some time: Mrs Harrison Lee* tM well-known temperance advocate, left Auckland for San Francisco.by the Ventura on Firiday last. , A pioneer settler in the person of Mrs Hume, wife of the late Mr Peter Hum©, of Tauanui, Lower Valley, died at Otarau, Martinborough, on Tuesday, aged 79 years. Mr John Edward .Neame, who died at his residence yesterday, was a very old resident of Marlborough. He was born at Maidstone, in Kent, and came out to New-Zealand in the year 1846, being then a child of about three years of. age. For a number of \ years he resided in Nelson, where he married .Matilda Lodge, his first wife. Later he came to Marlborough, and had the distinction of being the oldest and best known waggoner upon the . road. For 27 years he followed this occupation, and for the last- 17.years had driven a team for Mr J. White, of Onamalutu. His excellent qualities won him many friends, and he was generally respected throughout the district. On Saturday last he was en-' gaged in his ordinary avocation, and after a brief illness died on WedneSr day morning at 2 o'clock. His second wife, whom he married about 1892, survives, and he also leaves to mourn his loss three daughters and two sons: Mrs W. Fairhall, of Spring Creek, Mrs G. Bonnington, of Wairau Valley; Mrs A. Tovey, of Blenheim, Mr S. Neame, of ,Tua Marina, and Mr Newton. Neame, of this town.
