PELORUS ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday last, there being present: Messrs Reader (Chairman;, Hodgson, Palmer, Nees, Dalton, and Storey. The Chairman reported the result of tho recent Marlborough deputation to Wellington, also that he had waited on the Hon. Minister for Lands, and had presented the petition circulated through the district praying for an amendment of the Timber and Flax Royalties Act, 1905, enabling half timber royalties from the State forests (as distinct from Crown lands.) to be payable to the Board. The Minister had promised to give the petifion every consideration with the view of assisting the Board in obtaining such royalties.

Messrs Robertson Bros, wrote in reference to the Board's demand for payment of rates o» their licensed sacmilling area.—lt was decided itoat Messrs Roberts®Si Bros, be inforwied that the licensed sawmilling areas were now entered on the valuation roll as rateable property, and the rates must therefore he demanded.

The matter "df Mr Diamanti's fence encroaching «n the Wakamarina road being again referred to, the Inspector was directed to have the same removed by the Board's workmen. A petition was received from the settlers and occupiers of property in the Waikaka-ho Valley, requesting the Board, in-co-operation with the Picton Road Board, to open up the road on the proper fine from the Waikakaho Bridge to the north-western corner of Section 111, and stating that the request was due to the action of Mr Penney in twice fencing off the road now in use (through his freehold). —It was resolved that the petition be referred to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, asking if he could have the road surveyed to give access to the Crown lands; .silso that Mr Storey wait on the Land Board in support of the request. The Secretary was directed to take necessary action in objecting to the Omaka Tload Board's request for contribution to the proposed new Omaka Bridge. Mr "Cullen's application for permission to erect a swing-gate on the Cullensville road was agreed to subject to the usual conditions. : .
