The boy Knowles has been committed for trial on the charge of murdering a baby at Stockton-on-Tees, in Durham.
The defence set up the plea that apple peelings were found in the child's stomach, and suggested that death was due to convulsions, and that Koowlcs buried the child from fear.
[Patrick Knowle*, a match-seller, aged tea years, was arrested last week on the charge of murdering a flfteen-months-old baby He confessed that he dug a hold In the sand, laid the crying infant on iU back, covered its face with its pinafore and tben smothered it with sand while it cried and kioked, subsequently piling bricks and stones over the place. The youth was arrested while taking a second baby to the same spot.]
